How to do a weekly test on a fire alarm - Short version
This is a short video - recycling one that we created a few years ago, however the process is the same. Enable the controls on the fire alarm panel, set the system off using the test key on a manual call point (also called a Break Glass). Reset the test key, silence the fire alarm and reset. Simple!

      Hi Adil, your Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) contract is generally (99% of the time) set up by your alarm maintenance company and they will have the telephone number you can call to put it [your alarm system] on test. Sometimes an App is available for testing your system and is handy if you are the person doing the weekly test.

    What’s your opinion on Gent Vigilon/ SQuad?

    • @wirefreeprotection
      @wirefreeprotection 6 месяцев назад

      Hi Adil, the Gent Vigilon/SQUAD is well thought of, flexible and reliable combination of control panel and detection. The origins of the Vigilon date back to the Gent 3400 and 34000 which is about 30+ years old, and although the protocol hasn’t essentially changed a great deal, it has evolved, which in my opinion is a good thing. The cost of ownership is higher than open protocol systems such as Apollo or Hochiki. I estimate that the user would pay 20% more throughout its [a fire alarm system] typical lifetime, which is mainly down to the restricted market model that Gent systems are brought to market.

    • @wirefreeprotection
      @wirefreeprotection Год назад

      Hi Milan, any intruder alarm if designed and set up properly can detect intruders. Communicating this to you can be achieved in many different ways and depends on the manufacturer, your insurers requirements and what you are looking for. Typically we fit Dualcom units within the intruder alarm and they will alert a monitoring station of an activation and contact you or your nominated key-holder and the police if this has been set up. There are also APP based connections for convenience, although these aren't considered as real monitoring as there as they aren't secure and often clients have both.

    you should check that the alarm you tested is showing in correct zone on panel before you switch it all off.

    • @wirefreeprotection
      @wirefreeprotection 2 года назад

      Absolutely right! An essential part of testing your fire alarm isn't just to make sure it sounds when you set it off, but to also make sure the fire alarm panel knows where the alarm has been set off. Why? Because the Fire Brigade will look at your fire alarm panel upon arriving to the scene (as it should be located by the front door), and that will tell them where the fire is. Similarly, someone managing the system and evacuating everyone should know where the fire alarm has been activated in the building. E.g. Second Floor, Manager's Office. That’s unusual Kamel, it could be a number of things. 1 - the class change terminals are being triggered for some reason by an external input. 2 - there could be an internal fault. 3 - a user could be resetting a ‘fire’ signal that needs to investigated to allow resetting to take place. My advice would be to contact your a service organisation and have this investigated asap. If you need us then please call and if we cover your location we could arrange for a call out to investigate. Call us on 01277 622932 during the week days 08:00-17:00 GMT.

    Thank you for the clip. I’m currently working to upgrade a fire detection system at a marine berth. I understand that this wouldn’t count as a building? Does this mean that BS-5839 does not apply? Thank you.

      Hi Andrian, Very interesting question! The answer would lie in your Fire Risk Assessment as to what level of detection they stipulate. You are right in that it's likely not to meet the traditional categories within BS-5839, however if this is still a commercial premises in any form it is likely to still need to conform but perhaps to an L5 category, which is based on a bespoke requirement/the risk assessor's design stipulations. Therefore, I would fall back to what is stated in that assessment which would need to be reviewed anyway upon commissioning to ensure it meets and satisfies the risk requirements. Kind regards, Verity Head of Comms at WFP
